Fijian football star marries sweetheart

WELLINGTON Phoenix striker Roy Krishna scored the best goal of his life marrying sweetheart Naziah Ali in a four-day mixed cultures wedding which ended with a reception at the Xavier College in Ba last night.

Krishna and Ali got engaged in March last year. Originally from Siberia, Labasa, Krishna was scouted by former national coach Carlos Buzzetti in 2006.

In 2008 he signed up with New Zealand premiership club Waitakere United playing until 2013 before moving to Auckland City.

In 2014, Krishna secured his professional contract with the New Zealand based A-League club Phoenix and has been with the club since.

The 30-year-old has scored 32 goals in 86 games for Phoenix and is second on the list behind all-time goal scorer Paul Ifill who has 33.

With Krishna extending his contract for the 2018-2019 season, he is sure take over this record. He won the Phoenix ‘Player of the Year’ award for the 2017-2018 season.

Krishna has represented the national team on 33 occasions scoring 21 goals. He is the brand ambassador for Fiji Airways.

Ali who is the Mai Life magazine publisher was crowned Miss India Fiji in January, 2009 and went on to represent the country in the Miss India Worldwide Pageant in Durban, South Africa the following month.
