THE Rotaract Club of Lautoka is hoping to develop a love for reading among young children by establishing a Literacy and Arts program.
The club hosts students to activities that encourage young participants to read at the Lautoka Library every Saturday.
Club president Melissa Natawake said the focus of the program was to provide a comfortable space outside of school for children of all ages to develop a love for reading and help them express their artistic and creativity capabilities.
“The parents are very grateful for the program,” she said.
“The children often pick books to read at home & share what they read in class.
“They definitely showing interest in the novelty of reading books and it has become a great platform for educating kids on social issues as well especially when parents are trying to discourage them from playing games on smart phones and tablets.
“This is why it is vital to get children at such young ages to read, they just absorb so much information; they have the drive to learn and participate in activities.”
