Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho and Commander Francis Kean, the head of the Fiji Corrections Service, have been suspended by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere on the advice of the Constitutional Offices Commission.

They will now await a Tribunal hearing that will deliberate on complaints levelled against them.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said if the suspension of the duo – and Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem – is upheld by a tribunal ruling, the posts will be advertised. Assistant Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew will act as COMPOL.

He said people could “expect some changes” in the Fiji Police Force.

Assistant Commissioner Corporate of the Fiji Corrections Service Salote Panapasa, who has served FCS for 37 years, has been appointed Acting Commissioner Fiji Corrections Service.

She has made history as the first female to hold the position.

Also drawing accolades from women around the country was Ana Salaivalu Mataiciwa, the Manager Legal at the Fijian Elections Office.

She is now the Acting SOE, creating history as well for being the first woman to occupy the post.
