It was the stuff of fairytales as the Fijiana 7s team ended a glorious Olympics campaign securing the nation’s third medal with a 21-12 bronze finish against Great Britain in Tokyo on Saturday night.

After knocking out Australia in the quarter-finals and hard done by New Zealand in the semis, it was a sweet end as our bronze winners ran in three converted tries to secure their place in history.

Ahead of the tournament head coach Saiasi Fuli said with a side abundant in skill and fitness instilling execution, consistency and a prepared mental game would be key to reshape the side.

“We can be fi t but we have to instil them to be smart and have that mental toughness,”

“Like New Zealand and Australia they have a degree of execution and they play with passion and on top of it all precision which is something we have lacked and we have trained for four years and worked very hard on improving these areas.”

The sacrifices have paid off with our lionesses who bowed out in the quarterfinals in Rio 2016 coming home with their first ever medal.

Vasiti Solikoviti scored two tries in the first half with Reapi Uluinisau adding the nail in the final coffin late in the second half as well as convert all three tries, while Team GB managed to score two tries.
