Ordinary Fijians are much more educated now and they can identify and separate lies from truth. Agriculture Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy noted this in Parliament in response to Prof Biman Prasad’s claim that the Government would need $100 million a month to meet its debt repayment commitment.

“Mr Speaker Sir, the honourable Biman Prasad is back on his usual habit of misleading the public for personal gain,” Dr Reddy claimed.

“You choose and emotionalise those issues you think would be quite easily palatable to the ordinary Fijians.

“The debt servicing that this Government is undertaking now is for the debt that was incurred a long time back, that is how it is.”

Dr Reddy claimed that Prof Biman excluded the debt servicing of $500 million that they were doing to the SDL government, adding, they would have had to service $50m per month.

He also made claims that Prof Biman would not tell Parliament that this Government had already accumulated $430m in the sinking fund to pay back that bond amount.
