BAREFOOT Project is a sports charity organisation that started five years ago by Danny Badham Ligairi.
The essence of the project is about donating free sports equipment ranging from boots, canvas and other training gears and kits.
The sole purpose of such an initiative undertaken by Danny is to assist the underprivileged in pursuing their dreams and ultimately live their dreams in whichever sports they wish to participate in.
The Barefoot Project has its fingerprints in Kenya, South Africa, Botswana, Luxembourg and Italy.
It is making inroads in the Sugar City presently.
The Barefoot Project was officially launched at the Lautoka City Council’s conference room recently, working in tandem with the council’s vision of ‘Lautoka to be the best health, cultural and sports tourism city in the South Pacific’.
The Barefoot Project is affiliated to the Lautoka Rugby Union.
Danny was a professional sportsman participating in rugby union, rugby league and basketball.
A support team of iconic personalities associated with rugby union, play a huge role as ambassadors for the Barefoot Project and include the likes of current Springboks captain Siya Kolisi with fellow Springbok’s fly half Andre Pollard, former Flying Fijians Seremaia Bai, Nemani Nadolo and Julian Vulakoro, winning gold medallist coach at the Rio Olympics Ben Ryan, Englishmen Ben Foden and Ollie Folly with former All Black sensation Joe Rokocoko.
34 pairs of new Concave and Adidas branded rugby boots costing approximately AUD220.00 a pair, sizes ranging from 10-13, were given to the executives of the Lautoka Rugby Union.
