Police officer pleads guilty to traffic offences

A POLICE officer charged with various traffic offences pleaded guilty to all the charges today.

Josefa Nabete Baleiwai is charged with a count each of dangerous driving, driving a motor vehicle while there is present in the blood of a concentration of alcohol in excess of the prescribed limit and driving a motor vehicle with expired registration.

The incident occurred on November 17, 2018, in Nabua.

On mitigation, Baleiwai told Magistrate Deepika Prakash that because of his commitment to his work citing the election period, he forgot that his vehicle was not registered.

He further apologised to the court for his actions and said he will not reoffend.

The case has been adjourned to January 31 for sentencing.
