THE maintenance of Captain Cook Cruises sailing vessel, the MV Spirit of the Pacific cost the company $700,000.

Captain Cook Cruises general manager Tony Acland has also acknowledged the great work done by the Fiji Ships and Heavy Industries Ltd for the maintenance of the vessel.

“Captain Cook Cruises fleet of ships are at the very pinnacle of the marine tourism industry in Fiji,” Mr Acland said

“In order to maintain our reputation as Fiji’s leading cruise line we have to maintain our vessels to the very highest of standards.

“Captain Cook Cruises have had a very close working relationship with FSHIL for many years. It is due to their experienced management team, high quality of workmanship and understanding of the challenges faced by shipping companies that we have been able to develop such a fruitful relationship.”

Mr Acland said it was through the strong leadership and years of shipbuilding knowledge of Lopeti Radravu the FSHIL operations manager that he was able to trust this very difficult project to FSHIL.

“The quality of the workmanship, in particular their welding, painting and carpentry skills of the team was in my opinion some of the best available in the South Pacific. “Captain Cook Cruises Fiji looks forward to continuing our strong business relationship for many years to come.”

The Spirit of the Pacific is a 33 metre topsail schooner, suitable for carrying two to 100 passengers for inter island transfers and sailing experiences in conjunction with our private island of Tivua.

She is a working vessel manned by our Fijian seamen who are delighted to teach you some sailing techniques and maybe even a song or two.

Spirit of the Pacific has a lovely open deck with plenty of shade and with a kitchen and bathrooms below deck.

The Spirit of the Pacific was originally built as a sail training ship for the Youth of New Zealand.

She now operates the Lazy Lunch cruise to Tivua Island which is only 1.25 hours from Denarau offering easy access via the new jetty.

The Spirit of the Pacific is also available for private charter.
