THE Vodafone Fiji Under-16 football side defeated Samoa 3-2 in their opening match of the OFC Championship underway in the Solomon Islands.
The Yogendra Dutt coached side made work tough for the Samoans after conceding two early goals.
Samoan captain Lotial Manu scored two quick goals to put the Samoans ahead.
Eshan Kumar pulled one back for Fiji with a solo effort late in the first spell which saw Fiji trailing 1-2 at half-time.
Fiji’s captain Josaia Sela equalised with a tap in after a brilliant run and feed from Eshan Kumar.
Sela then converted a penalty to give Fiji the hard fought win.
