OFC Championship: Fiji fails to qualify for semi-finals

THE Vodafone Fiji Under-19 teams’ hope of qualifying to next years FIFA World Cup is over.

This was after the side was held to a 1-all draw by New Caledonia at the OFC Championship in Tahiti.

Ratu Dau scored for Fiji in the 47th minute.

Fijian goalkeeper Alzaar Alam saved a penalty late in the first half however, the opponent’s equalised mid-way through the second spell.

Fiji needed a win in this match to qualify for the semi-finals.

Fiji won its first match beating Vanuatu 3-1 after which they lost to the Solomon Islands 1-nil.

In the semi-finals, New Zealand will play New Caledonia while Tahiti takes on the Solomon Islands.

The two finalists qualify for next year’s FIFA U20 World Cup.
