FIJI’S Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate has challenged his staff to ensure that Fiji’s labour market is on par with the fast-changing global environment.

During the launch of the ministry’s Operational Plan and Strategic Development Plan 2018-2022, Mr Usamate said the youth unemployment rate in Fiji now stood at 18.1 per cent while the employment rate stood at 4.5 per cent.

“Globalisation creates many opportunities, however, it is those that adapt quickly and open up their networks and relationships to the new economic wave that have benefitted from globalisation,” Mr Usamate said.

He said the ministry’s operational and strategic plan would assist the ministry to reach its targeted goals.
