The Vodafone Gold N Water Carnival is set to take place this Saturday at Garvey, Park, Tavua with five contestants vying for the crown.
Organising committee chairperson Rajendra Raghlu said the carnival is expected to conclude on July 11.
“We are very grateful for Vodafone Fiji for being with us for almost a decade as the major sponsor,” he said.
“We do not have themed nights, but we have got a theme for the carnival, so this year we moved away from drugs and other things, looking at the political landscape of this nation.”
Mr Raghlu said most of the stall space had been booked.
“We already have 19 food stalls and 14 flea markets. And the amusement, half the ground has been sold out and that will be the amusement centre for that.”
Mr Raglu also confirmed that necessary Occupational Health and Safety checks had been made on the amusement rides.
“We want to see safety first and of course there will be no ferris wheels because we do not allow that and we anticipate that it will be incident free.”
Mr Raghlu said Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa would be officiating at the opening this Saturday at 7pm.
