Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) leader Viliame Gavoka says a SODELPA government will not entertain any dialogue on the issue of same-sex marriage as it totally opposed to it.
“The answer will always be, ‘No, never’,” Mr Gavoka said.
“Fiji is a God-fearing nation, and the word of God is our guide and our light for the protection and wellbeing of our people,” he said.
“God had spoken to his people in Leviticus Chapter 18 setting standards and clearly forbidding what are unlawful sexual relations.
“One of this is ‘not to have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman’. Fiji has fully embraced Leviticus Chapter 18 to this day.”
Mr Gavoka said SODELPA recognised that there were those who were “born differently”.
“They are our brothers, cousins, nephews, nieces et cetera – an important part of us and we shall, as always, cherish them, value them, and ensure they enjoy a fruitful life.
“Same-sex marriage is an abomination and as a party and as government, SODELPA will vigorously resist any attempt to bring same-sex marriage into Fiji.”
