The Navua Hospital board of visitors has received a donation of $10,000 from Pacific Energy (SWP) Pte Limited aimed to boost medical care and upgrades at the Navua hospital.
The donation was received by the Navua hospital board of visitors secretary Felichya Kayes, treasurer Ashwini Prasad and board member Saimoni Ratukadreu at the Pacific Energy (SWP) office in Suva, yesterday.
Ms Kayes said the donation together with funds collected from their upcoming 2026 Black Tie Gala event will be used for the construction of a dignity house, upgrade work, purchasing ECG machines and batteries for the hospital.
“We already have a morgue at the hospital, but we don’t have a dignity house where a family of the deceased takes the body of their loved ones to bathe and dress for their final rites,” Ms Kayes said.
She said the new facility will allow relatives to wash, dress and prepare their deceased loved ones for final rituals, free of charge which will relieve severe transport and financial burdens for lower-income families living across Pacific Harbour, Navua and Serua.
She said it will also provide milk for new mothers who are unable to breastfeed.
Meanwhile, Pacific Energy SWP chief executive officer Stephane Cadel said their commitment to community wellbeing is at the heart of what they do and they looked forward to contributing to the success of this important cause.
The hospital board had raised $59,500 in 2024 and has aimed to collect $150,000 this year.
The fundraising will be held at the Pearl Resort & Spa at 6pm next Wednesday.
