A total of 262 projects were implemented from 2007 to 2020 with a value around $F1.6 billion worth of investments within the tourism sector.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica shared this at the official opening of the inaugural Fiji Tourism Investment Summit 2023 on Denarau yesterday.
“However, there are numerous opportunities for investments in the following sectors and areas such as accommodation, supporting infrastructure, adventure tourism, medical tourism, sports tourism, educational tourism, attractions and tours as well as retail,” Mr Kamikamica said.
“Investment Fiji is also working with the ministry on a number of leads that is expected to make a start in coming years as these projects are already in planning or preparatory stages.
“The current tourism industry consists of over 400 properties that provide approximately 14,000 rooms to the industry.”
The minister informed stakeholders and government representatives that Fiji needs a pipeline of new sustainable projects in order to meet demand and capitalise on the growing interest from tourists in the country.
He also reminded them on the need to safeguard shared commitments to build a more sustainable tourism industry — an industry that is resilient, inclusive and lucrative for all stakeholders and most importantly landowners.
The three-day summit is hosted by the International Finance Corporation in conjunction with Investment Fiji, Tourism Fiji, HFC Bank and Telecom Fiji.
