GOOD Samaritans who have given 550 wheelchairs to Fiji over the past five years have raised their concerns about the missing items.
Even though the American-based group — Fiji Wheelchairs — has continued to give wheelchairs to the needy, their founder Chetan Singh has pleaded with patients to return the wheelchairs if they no longer needed them or accidentally took them home.
“Most of these wheelchairs have been donated to individual people who applied for it and also agreed to return it when they pass on or no longer need it,” he said.
“But this has not happened and we are asking these people who still have wheelchairs at home to bring it back so we can give it to other patients who need it. “Some of these wheelchairs were also given to hospitals and this week we visited the facilities in Savusavu and Labasa and some wheelchairs are also missing.”
Mr Singh said these wheelchairs could easily be identified as they carried the group’s logo. For the past five years, Fiji Wheelchairs has given 110 wheelchairs every year.
Two days ago, he gave new wheelchairs to the Labasa Rotary Club. Mr Singh said those who wanted to apply for the wheelchairs could contact the Rotary club.
