Zooming down the zipline

THE “Sleeping Giant” is a natural landmark located in Sabeto in Nadi and there is no chance that it can be missed when crossing the Barara flats.

The name Sleeping Giant is given to this mountain in Sabeto because of the shape it forms. It resembles a giant who is lying on his back. As a child, on many occasions, I have had fun trying to make out which end is the head and which is the foot.

Sabeto in Nadi deserves special mention because it forms a natural wonder whether its flora, fauna, and agriculture or natural beauty.

It is the natural beauty that intrigues me and last week the experience was just breathtaking. I am talking about ziplines and waterfalls.

The Giant Zipline in Sabeto Nadi is a place of wonders — the little office and reception area along with the veranda which overlooks the Sabeto River with its big rocks, rushing water and cool pools.

The different ziplines offer a different view of the western rainforest from different heights and at varying speeds. And this is a family experience as children as young as four years old can get on the ziplines and for those who cannot take the height, the more than helpful and resourceful staff members are ready to take you on an assisted ride.

There are five different types of zipline rides that can be tried.

Then there is the waterfall tour which takes you through the forest along a cemented train and you get a chance to experience a tropical rainforest on the Western side of Viti Levu. I have found the West rainforests to be different. They are drier and the vegetation differs.

The walk to the swimming spot is more than a kilometre and mostly uphill. This is a good thing to build up a sweat and then refresh in the cool Sabeto waters.

There are many small waterfalls which can be visited along the track.

The Giant Zipline is situated on a 35-acre land with a lot to offer. Put this on the family to-do-list and I am sure this adventure would be remembered and talked about for a long time to come.

The best thing is that you can take the zipline rides as many times as you like. Unlike many other adventures where you get to go on the thrill ride just once, at the Giant Zipline, there is no limit on how many times you get on the zip, but this is dependent on the number of people at the eco-friendly adventure park.

Getting there

The Giant Zipline is located 25-minute drive from the Nadi International Airport at the base of Fiji’s famous “Sleeping Giant” mountain in Sabeto Valley. The company provides shuttles from the airport and hotels as well.

But if you have your own vehicle, you can drive up there or even get a cab from the main road. The famous Sabeto Rd is clearly marked along the Queen’s highway in the Barara Flats just a few minutes from the Nadi International Airport.

Weddings and events

The Giant Zipline park is also a perfect venue to host events such as weddings. The waterfall is a wishful romantic scene. It provides a different backdrop and maybe something which will make your big day even more memorable.

Imagine yourself flying through a tropical rainforest canopy over gurgling streams and waterfalls. That’s only the beginning on this amazing adventure that combines a five-stage zipline course and a stroll through the wild tropical jungle, all the while enjoying four beautiful waterfalls in an exclusive area.

You will be surrounded by ancient rain trees, covered with jungle vines, lacy ferns, wild coffee plants, many tropical fruit trees, myriads of beautiful butterflies and colourful parrots as you hike from one area to the next in this tropical wonderland.

This course was created to fill the senses with anticipation and excitement in a safe and fun environment for the entire family.

All lines are platform to platform and on ground making it easier for all to participate.
