NO arrests have been made in the alleged murder of the Jone Vakarisi.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu reassured the public that this was not because of a delay in investigations, but because investigators still had extensive grounds to cover.
“To date, house-to-house inquiries, gathering of witnesses’ statements, uplift of forensic samples, and digital forensic analysis are being carried out by the investigation team,” Mr Tudravu said.
“No arrests have been made yet as inquiries continue.”
Mr Tudravu said investigators needed to cover all areas properly before identifying a suspect.
He also gave an update on investigations into breaches of RFMF security installations in Lautoka and Nabua, which were earlier linked to Mr Vakarisi.
Mr Tudravu said police were following several leads based on intelligence, information gathered, and digital and forensic analysis already conducted.
He said the Fiji Police Force acknowledged public concerns about the lack of updates on the investigations.
However, he urged members of the public to understand that police could not disclose every step of the investigation process.
“Doing so jeopardises the integrity of investigation and the justice process.
“I’m calling for patience and understanding and the support of the joint task force and the investigation team.”
He said major developments would be released in due course.
