Woman charged for fake rental car services and obtaining cash

A 37-year old woman who allegedly conned people on Facebook about a fake rental car services has been charged with one count of Dishonestly Dealing with Personal Financial Information and one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception.
Police, in a statement said the accused allegedly obtained $500 from a public member wanting to use the rental car services.
“The accused a resident of Davuilevu, Nausori, is alleged to have on the 13th day of December 2023, dishonestly obtained the said amount through the MPaisa platform,” police said.
“The accused allegedly engaged with another to deceive the victim of a rental car service which was posted on Facebook. The victim sent the money where it was withdrawn by the accused.
The accused is then alleged to have cut off all forms of communication with the victim.”
She has been charged and will be produced at the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
