The Western State Maroons women’s team created history clinching game one of the Pherrus Vanua State of Origin beating the Eastern State Blues by 12-4 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva this afternoon.
“We created history today and I could never be prouder of the girls,” said manager Nanise Tuqiri.
“To come away from home, and for most of these girls, it’s their first time to play at the ANZ Stadium and to go back with the win, there are no words,” Tuqiri said.
“To the West, this win is for you.”
The Maroons scored a try on either side of the half through fullback Alesi Naudu and hooker Kelera Kalidredre with right centre Natasha Caqusa adding the conversions.
Blues fullback Asenaca Diranuve scored the side’s only try.
