Concerns over rising fuel prices, fuel price setting mechanisms and delayed payments under government public-private partnership schemes are expected to dominate today’s sitting of Parliament.

Opposition MP Premila Kumar is set to question the Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development on whether Government will consider reducing the fuel tax levy amid rising global fuel prices linked to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

Kumar is also expected to ask the Minister to explain the methodology used by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission in setting local fuel prices.

The questions come amid growing public concern over increasing fuel costs and the broader impact on the cost of living.

Meanwhile, Opposition MP Faiyaz Koya is expected to seek answers from the Finance Minister regarding delays in payments to workers engaged under the GP PPP and Lab PPP schemes.

Koya will ask why those employed under the schemes have allegedly not been paid regularly since October 2025.

Today’s parliamentary sitting will also include ministerial statements and the presentation of committee reports.

The sitting is expected to generate significant debate on economic pressures facing households and businesses, particularly surrounding fuel prices and employment-related concerns.
