FUEL prices are expected to rise again next month due to ongoing international tensions in the Middle East.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said the Government had been informed of the expected increase, which was linked to overseas developments.
“There has been an increase in the prices of goods. Yesterday we were told that the price of fuel would increase,” he said.
Mr Rabuka said the increase was being driven by international conflicts that had pushed up global fuel prices, which were beyond the Government’s control.
“We thought the increase in fuel prices would stop.”
Mr Rabuka made the comments while speaking at the launch of the Fiji Blue Economy and Green Growth Community Development Program at Koronatoga Village in Cakaudrove yesterday.
He said international events continued to have a direct impact on Fiji’s economy, particularly through higher fuel costs, which also affected the prices of goods and services.
Fuel prices in Fiji are reviewed monthly by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission based on changes in international refined fuel prices, freight costs and the exchange rate.
The next fuel price announcement is expected at the end of the month.
