A FALLEN tree on Milverton Rd, Suva, left several Suva homes without electricity last weekend.
Property owner Brian Singh said he was surprised upon learning that Energy Fiji Ltd staff do not respond to non-emergency calls on weekends.
Mr Singh had sent an electrician to inspect his rental property, occupied by foreign students and a police officer, but internal wiring was cleared of any fault.
He said he was previously unaware of the utility provider’s weekend policy.
Tenant Laisa Kumar said nearby houses had their power restored by Saturday while her household remained without service.
Ms Singh voiced concern over safety, business disruption, and damaged frozen foods, noting that the area recently suffered from thefts.
“If we didn’t pay our bill, it’s a different story,” she said. “This is an emergency because we have students.”
Ms Singh said she also uses a washing machine for her laundry.
With no news regarding power restoration, affected residents must wait until regular business resumed yesterday for workers to address the issue.
Questions sent to Energy Fiji Ltd remained unanswered
