Weather fails to deter ruggers

The Vodafone Fiji Secondary School Rugby League South-Eastern Zone commenced successfully yesterday, despite unfavorable weather.

FSSRL media officer Lai Corerega said the school teams showed great determination and commitment by participating in the competition despite the challenges posed by the weather in round three.

“Teams from both the Southeast and Western zones have been delivering remarkable performances in the past two rounds, indicating that they are well-prepared for the upcoming elimination rounds,” said Corerega.

“The top two teams from this round will proceed to the zone quarter-finals next week.

The girls’ competition, known as the Pherrus Trophy, is also proving to be highly competitive, with Namosi seeking to defend its title against strong contenders such as Naitasiri.

In the schoolboys’ competition, prominent teams such as Nasinu Panthers, QVS, RKS, and newcomers Bua Sea Eagles are standing expected to deliver exciting matches in the upcoming quarter-finals.

The organisers expressed their gratitude to sponsors Vodafone and Pherrus for their support, emphasising that the competition would not have been possible without their backing.

Pherrus Trophy Schoolgirls competition: John Wesley Saints 18-4 Rt Simione Bulldogs, St Vincent 14-4 Rewa Sharks, Drasa Secondary School 28-8 St Thomas High School, St Theresa Saints 0-18 Nasikawa Raiders.

Western Schoolboys competition: U19 Nasikawa Vision Raiders 8-6 Sigatoka Methodist Knight, Sigatoka Valley 26-4 Saint Theresa College, Ra High School 12-4 Ba Sanatan College.
