Update: 12:49PM THREE cases of victims duped into exchanging money for taxi permits have been reported to the Fiji Police Force’s Criminal Investigation Department.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro made this confirmation as she reiterated Police advisory to members of the public against dealing and exchanging money with people who call them with the promise of securing taxi permits.
Ms Naisoro said certain individuals were calling people using the name of senior Land Transport Authority officers, and giving confirmation that a taxi permit could be secured if a certain amount of money was deposited directly to an account.
“Some victims have paid up to $3000 only to later find out it was a scam and were short of both money and a permit,” she said.
“As investigations are ongoing, we are advising members of the public to follow the proper channels and liaise only with the Land Transport Authority regarding such matters.”
