THE chiefly island of Bau will tomorrow observe the vakataraisulu ceremony for the late Turaga na Taukei Naisogolaca, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, as traditional mourning rites continue for the former president and speaker of Parliament.
Proceedings will begin at 10am with a church service before a series of customary ceremonies held on the island.
A isevusevu and presentation of traditional gifts will be made by the Tui Nayau, Tui Lau and Sau ni Vanua o Lau, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara.
Tunitoga Aisea Jack Komaitai said the Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa is also expected to attend the ceremonies, although confirmation had yet to be received.
The day’s program will include the luva isulu ceremonies involving Ratu Epeli’s daughter, Adi Litia Cakobau Nailatikau, who will first visit the residence of the Turaga Vunivalu na Tui Kaba at Mataiwelagi before accompanying her mother, the Radi Naisogolaca and widow of Ratu Epeli, Adi Koila Nailatikau to visit the Roko Tui Bau at Naicobocobo.
The ceremonies will culminate with the veiqaravi vakavanua on the village green on Bau.
