Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s blindside flanker, Etonia Waqa, made a triumphant return from injury, delivering an instrumental performance in their 24-17 victory over Moana Pasifika at Churchill Park yesterday.
Reflecting on the tough match, Waqa expressed gratitude for the win, emphasizing the coach’s instruction to relentlessly pursue possession.
“It was a tough match for us, but we are grateful for the win.
“We were just reminded by coach to keep chasing for possessions,” Waqa said.
Waqa admitted to being surprised by his inclusion in the lineup against Moana Pasifika after returning from rehab, considering himself fortunate.
“It’s good to be back, it was positive rehab for us, I didn’t know that I will play but I was lucky enough to be listed in the line up and feel good to be back,” he added.
Looking ahead to their next match against the Brumbies in Canberra, where Drua has yet to secure an away win this season, Waqa stressed the importance of playing in the right direction.
He emphasized that there are no excuses for losing against the Brumbies, highlighting the need for execution.
“We just had to play in the right paths of the field and if we play on the right path, we can convert it to tries.
“We are trying our best, there is no excuses, it’s just execution, especially in the second half,” he added.
