The Electoral Commission of the Republic of Fiji and the Fijian Elections Office say voter registration activities will continue uninterrupted as the country shifts its focus toward the upcoming General Election.

This comes after the Prime Minister confirmed that Local Government Elections will now be held after the national poll, a change attributed to fiscal pressures, operational demands, and the scale of electoral activity expected in the coming months.

The Electoral Commission and the FEO acknowledged the Government’s broader national considerations, while reaffirming that preparations for the General Election remain on track and well advanced.

They stressed that voter registration now carries increased importance, with Fiji preparing for a national election that may be held any time between 07 August 2026 and 06 February 2027.

Across the country, FEO teams continue to roll out voter services directly to communities, including villages, settlements, schools, tertiary institutions, and workplaces. Since the launch of the YES Outreach Nationwide Voter Registration and Awareness campaign on 04 May 2026, more than 16,000 Fijians have accessed registration and awareness services.

Officials are urging eligible voters not to wait for the election announcement.

“Register now. Update your details now. Be prepared now,” the statement said.

The Commission and the FEO also confirmed that preparatory work is in full swing, including recruitment of election officials, voter awareness campaigns, systems testing, stakeholder engagement, and operational planning for what is expected to be one of Fiji’s largest and most complex peacetime logistical exercises.

They reiterated their commitment to ensuring that the electoral process is conducted with professionalism, integrity, transparency, and credibility.
