Visitor permit extension applications were the most common immigration applications lodged in Fiji between 2019 and 2023, while work permit applications recorded the highest number of refusals over the five-year period.
Figures provided by the Fiji Immigration Department to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence, and tabled in Parliament, show that 19,101 visitor permit extension applications were lodged between 2019 and 2023. Of these, 14,096 were approved and 5005 were refused.
Work permits recorded the second-highest number of applications, with 21,286 lodged over the five years.
Study permits ranked third, attracting 16,367 applications, with 15,342 approvals and just 733 refusals, giving them one of the highest approval rates.
Residence permit applications totalled 13,756, of which 10,434 were approved and 3326 refused.
Applications for single-entry visas reached 12,864, with 10,143 approvals and 2281 refusals.
Investor permits accounted for 2058 applications, with 1462 approved and 596 refused, while multiple-entry visas recorded 2158 applications, 1922 approvals, and the lowest number of refusals at 236.
The figures were included in information submitted by the Department of Immigration as part of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence’s review process tabled in Parliament last month.
