Vatukoula beat Bua 16-13 in the Vodafone Vanua Trophy semi-finals and now gets a shot at playing in the Skipper Cup competition.
The men from the gold mining town join Malolo as the two top teams from the Tier 2 competition and will play in a round-robin promotion-relegation competition against the bottom two from the Skipper Cup.
Malolo beat Ovalau 35-16 in the second Vanua semi-final at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
Vatukoula head coach Emori Ratu said the win would have not been possible if it wasn’t for the determination of his players.
“I am thankful to the Lord Almighty for what we have achieved this year,” he said.
“I had told the boys that we will win this game despite the challenges of travelling far to play.”
Ratu said they had been competing in the Vanua competition for the past seven years.
“This victory is a testament to our perseverance and commitment.”
The match was fiercely contested, with both teams giving their all on the field.
Vatukoula displayed exceptional skill and teamwork, maintaining their composure under pressure.
With this victory, they have earned a well-deserved place in the prestigious Skipper Cup tournament.
Vatukoula will now play Malolo in the final of the Vanua Trophy.
