Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu believes the indigenous community need a lot of guidance in the business front.

In agreeing with the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) Review Report 2023 that has recommended joint ventures and partnerships between existing businesses and iTaukei communities to narrow the economic gap, Mr Vasu said past records of iTaukei owned businesses have proven that guidance was imperative.

“We do know that some businesses we have set up as iTaukei usually don’t last so I agree that we certainly need the advise and assistance of the experienced lot,” he said.

“The review report highlights this and we can work together in this area.”

The report states that closing the growing inequality gap in business participation and share of the national economic wealth between the iTaukei and other ethnic groups was a theme that resonated strongly in all the consultations.
