THE Vanuabalavu rugby side produced a clinical performance in Round 8 of the Suva Rugby Escott Shield competition, defeating Central Brothers 21-16 at St Marcellin Ground in Vatuwaqa on Friday.

Vice-captain Peter James credited the victory to the team’s discipline, teamwork and commitment to their game plan.

“It was a good match against our opponent, and I thank the boys for the teamwork that allowed us to execute our game plan well,” he said.

Despite the win, James acknowledged there are still areas the side needs to improve ahead of next week’s fixture.

“We need to work on a few areas such as ball handling, defence and attack so we can continue to improve and give our opponents a strong challenge next week,” he added.

Friday’s clash marked Vanuabalavu’s sixth outing in this season’s Escott Shield campaign.

While the side endured a difficult start with losses in the opening rounds, James said the setbacks have only strengthened the players’ determination to achieve their goals this season.

“It has not been an easy journey for the team, but the boys’ faith, passion and commitment to the sport continue to drive us forward,” he said.

“One of our main goals is to win the Escott Shield, and we are working hard towards that target.”

The Vanuabalavu side also acknowledged the unwavering support from their families and the people of Vanuabalavu living in Suva, saying their encouragement continues to inspire the team throughout the competition.
