More than a month after the death of Virgin Australia flight attendant Lucinta Evans, her family says the painful wait for someone to be held accountable continues as police await legal direction on whether charges will be laid.
They say the wait has been incredibly difficult.
Ms Evans was killed in an accident in Martintar, Nadi, where she was allegedly struck by a taxi believed to have been involved in a collision with another car in late March.
“Police have advised that the matter is currently with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review.
“As a family, this period of waiting has been incredibly difficult.
“It has now been over a month since the incident and we continue to live each day with profound grief.”
The Evans family said they respected the legal process in place, but it has been difficult to note that a no one has been charged over Lucinta’s death.
“We are surrounded by constant reminders of Lucinta, her dreams, and the overwhelming emptiness in our lives that should never have been there. Our spark is gone.
“While we respect the legal process, it is deeply challenging to come to terms with the fact that, at this stage, no one has been held accountable.
“We continue to seek answers and hope for appropriate action once the review is finalised.”
“The rising number of fatalities and serious injuries caused by dangerous driving, speeding, and reckless behaviour is a growing concern.
“No family should have to endure such a loss.”
Police confirmed a suspect was questioned and released.
“The file has been sent to DPP and we await their advice,” a police statement said.
