USP academics’ research paper wins third prize

Update: 4:14PM ACADEMICS of the University of the South Pacific’s School of Engineering and Physics recently received an award for the third best research paper out of 850 papers submitted from across the world.

The USP confirmed this in a statement yesterday commending the continued strengthening of the quality of research carried at the university.

The team comprising Professor Maurizio Cirrincione, Nayzel Jannif, Dr Ali Mohammadi, and Associate Professor Giansalvo Cirrincione who is an Adjunct Associate Professor based in France (University of Picardie Jules Verne) and Gianpaolo Vitale (Senior Researcher of the National Research Council of Italy – CNR) submitted a research paper on ‘Experimental Application of Least-Squares Technique for Estimation of Double Layer Super Capacitor Parameters’.

The paper was submitted to the 20th International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems held in Sydney, Australia last month; co-sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

The submitted paper discussed all the variables of the model of the super capacitor and that it could be put to better use in terms of greater efficiency in electric vehicles and make the system fault tolerant and consequently safer.
