Upgrading works at Tailevu VSAT seismic station complete

The upgrading works carried out at the Tailevu VSAT seismic station in Nasinu Village, Dawasamu in Tailevu has been completed.

Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Jone Usamate while visiting the site on Monday this week said the upgrade will enable the seismology section to better monitor, analyse, verify, research, and provide accurate and timely earthquake information.

“It will ensure and improve public safety, environmental protection and the nation’s economic security is paramount,” Mr Usamate said.

On August 31, 2021, a team from the seismology section was deployed for the upgrading works on the Tailevu VSAT station which is the first of the six seismic stations around Fiji to be upgraded.

The remaining five VSAT stations will be upgraded subject to MoH COVID-19 travel restrictions.
