The Land Transport Authority and digital wallet platform M-PAiSA have launched a major upgrade to the payment mode enabling real-time updates for all transactions made through the mobile wallet application.

This upgrade replaces the previous offline batch-processing system that would usually take two to three business days to reflect in the LTA system after a payment. Now, payments for traffic fines, vehicle renewals and driver licence renewals made via M-PAiSA will be visible to LTA officers the moment the transaction is completed.

“Previously, these payments were batch-processed once the payment file was received, causing delays of up to three days. This created unnecessary frustration for customers attempting to finalise their driving licence or motor vehicle fitness renewals,” LTA chief executive officer Irimaia Rokosawa said in a statement yesterday.

“This is now a thing of the past. Instant reflection of payments ensures a seamless experience for our customers.

“This development, and the ongoing collaboration, augurs well with LTA’s current digitisation journey under its business process re-engineering project, which is focused on making transactions more seamless, easy, convenient and accessible to the public. “Customers can now complete their transactions from the comfort of their homes, without the need to visit our offices.”

Mr Rokosawa said the upgrade was designed to provide maximum convenience, in particular for those who encountered unexpected hurdles in unpaid fines while visiting one of their branches. Vodafone Fiji Pte Ltd general manager Digital Financial Services Shailendra Prasad said the integration meant on-the-spot resolution and reduced paperwork through real time digital verification.

“This is fantastic news for the thousands of M-PAiSA users who own vehicles or hold a driver licence,” Mr Prasad said.

“Real-time payment means less running around and significantly better service delivery. This partnership marks a continued commitment by both LTA and M-PAiSA to leverage financial technology to simplify essential services for all Fijians.” Mr Prasad added users must update to the latest version of the Vodafone Fiji M-PAiSA app to access the service.

A significant volume of the authority’s transactions is channeled through M-PAiSA.
