Fiji can potentially inject some 25,000 jobs into the local labour market if it taps into the global Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) that is presently experiencing robust growth.

Outsource Fiji executive director Sagufta Janif said the BPO industry worldwide was projected to reach $405.6billion by 2028 from $235.9b recorded in 2020.

She said the sector had already registered an increase in employment from 2000 pre-COVID pandemic to 8000 post-pandemic.

“If we tap into at least 5 per cent of this market, it could potentially translate into 25,000 jobs over the next decade,” Ms Janif said in a statement from Investment Fiji.

Outsource Fiji is among 30 delegates that will attend the North America trade mission on May 4-14.

It is focused on promoting Fiji as a competitive outsourcing destination.

Ms Janif said the mission was to establish partnerships with North American businesses and industry stakeholders, explore avenues for collaboration and technology transfer, and advocate for supportive policies and incentives.

She said they also intended to cultivate trust and interest among North American businesses and investors, foster long-term partnerships by strategically networking with key stakeholders, and showcase Fiji’s value proposition.

“During the mission, Outsource Fiji will focus on exploring partnerships and investments in specific areas of the outsourcing sector, such as IT/software development, customer service, finance/accounting, back-office operations, and emerging technologies,” Ms Janif said.

“Additionally, Outsource Fiji will prioritise training and capacity building opportunities for its workforce, integrating new technologies to enhance productivity, and understanding regulatory and quality certification requirements to ensure compliance and credibility in the global market.”

Outsource Fiji is the industry body that guides and ensures the development of the BPO industry.

Investment Fiji CEO Kamal Chetty said the Fiji North-America Business Mission represents a significant opportunity for Fiji to demonstrate its potential as a competitive outsourcing destination.
