The University of Fiji will open a new campus in the Northern Division in September.
Vice Chancellor Professor Shaista Shameem said the new campus was a result of the increasing number of enrolments from the division.
“We realised that the student numbers were growing and we did not really have a space for them,” she said.
“And to build a lecture theatre or office space would take years, and we did not really have the capital funds for that either.”
She said the university has moved to opening
“So, the Council resolved for us to rent a space, but when that happened, I realised that we really have to decentralise education.
“Which means instead of bringing the students to the university we need to take the university to the students.
“So, we opened a small campus in Levuka last year and this year we are opening a campus in Labasa.”
