SIX members of three past boards and three leadership groups at the Fiji National University are allegedly linked to an ongoing investigation into losses associated with the university, including the incomplete $12million Naiyaca subdivision campus project in Labasa.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka confirmed the investigation involved three past boards and three leadership groups, saying the current FNU leadership was following up on the losses.
“I believe there is an ongoing investigation and it involves three past boards and three leadership groups,” he said.
“The current leadership group is following up on that. The council and the board, they’re following up on the losses.”
Asked whether he had spoken with Education Minister Aseri Radrodro about the matter, Mr Rabuka said he had not.
“No, I haven’t,” he said.
He said he only recently confirmed that there were two outstanding regulations.
The investigation comes amid concerns over the Naiyaca project, where about $12 million was spent but the campus remained incomplete.
The project was intended to provide FNU with a major campus in the Northern Division, but construction was abandoned after problems emerged.
FNU conducted a review of the project and its findings were referred to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.
The project has also been subjected to scrutiny over its governance, procurement and management.
He said the matter remained under investigation as Government continued to monitor FNU’s governance and financial affairs.
