Members of the Fiji Women’s Cricket under-19 side would be heading into camp next month before flying out to Indonesia to compete at the East Asia World Cup Qualifiers.
Assistant coach Joeli Matayawa said the team would be camping for seven days before leaving on May 11.
“Yes, the girls will be heading into camp next week on Sunday, and then they will fly out to Indonesia,” Matayawa said.
This is the first time Fiji’s under-19 women’s side has qualified for the tournament. The winner of the event will qualify for the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup next year.
“Preparations have been ongoing for the past few months and the girls are in good shape and are looking forward to the competition.
“The excitement is high because this is the first time for an under-19 women’s team to be competing at this event.”
Matayawa said the side’s preparations had been up to par over the past few weeks. They would be sharpening a few edges during their camp before departing the country.
“Training has been coming along well and the girls have been working hard so that’s a good thing to see.
“We’ll just be touching up on a few things during their camp before heading out.
“We just need to prepare them well mentally and emotionally because this is a huge tournament, and some of the best teams in the world will be competing and we will need to be taking our ‘A’ game.”
