FIJIANS will be asked two questions during the national referendum on December 9.

In a press conference in Nadi yesterday, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka explained the questions will ask eligible Fijians whether it agreed with Parliament’s decision.

“The result will be in fact the answer to two questions, a ‘yes’ or ‘no’,” he said.

“It will be a ‘yes’, you agree with what Parliament has agreed with or ‘no’ you do not agree with what Parliament has agreed with.

“And then Parliament will vote on the total report that has been brought before it, which will be passed into law.”

Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga said Government was working closely with the Supervisor of Elections and the Electorial Commission which have been providing directions on the national referendum.

“I think it’s important to understand that coming at this stage, for our Honourable Prime Minister to make this announcement, we have been working closely with the election officers, and that’s basically the direction that they have given us,” he said.

“They will make further releases in the coming days.”
