The 2024 Western Women’s Expo wrapped up successfully at the Girmit Centre in Lautoka having showcased the talents of as many as 200 women.
The venue was filled with colourful displays of handmade products, including mats, baskets, clothing, food and crafts.
Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya acknowledged the women for their effort and hard work.
“Thank you for coming out in numbers and displaying your products on the table. I salute you all for your hard work that has made these two days a success,” Ms Tabuya said.
A standout exhibitor, Amelia Baleo from Dama Village in Ra, impressed the crowd with her creative lampstands, money boxes and flower vases made from local materials.
“For my creation I only used simple items,” she said.
“I bought glue, a little bit of cement and nail polish to make them. Other items were from the garden.
“My plan is to expand my craft, given adequate financial support.”
Ms Baleo thanked Ms Tabuya for her support in securing a financial aid plan for aspiring entrepreneurs.
The two-day event was, apart from business, a joyful celebration of women’s skills and community spirit.
