Two charged with murder over death of Vimal Nand

Two men have been charged with murder following the death of 38-year-old Vimal Nand after an alleged assault in Sigatoka over the weekend.

Police confirmed the two accused, aged 19 and 51, will be produced at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 13.

The pair have been jointly charged with one count of murder, one count of act with intent to cause grievous harm and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

The charges follow an alleged confrontation involving Nand, his son and another student while they were out horse riding.

According to police, the two suspects allegedly confronted the three over the weekend.

Nand was later found unconscious by his brother with serious head injuries.

He was initially taken to Sigatoka Hospital before being transferred to Nadi Hospital and subsequently to Lautoka Hospital because of the seriousness of his injuries.

Nand later died at Lautoka Hospital despite attempts to revive him.

The two accused are expected to make their first court appearance on the charges at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court on Thursday.
