Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says former Attorney-General Siromi Turaga could’ve done a better job as A-G, and a change was needed.
He made the comment after Suva lawyer Graham Leung was appointed A-G at State House by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere yesterday.
When asked whether a Cabinet reshuffl e was looming, Mr Rabuka said there would be more changes to Cabinet if needed.
“We needed to change,” Mr Rabuka said.
“I need more advice so both of them will now be available.
“The A-G and Minister for Justice will both be with me in Cabinet.
“We were feeling the strain. Mr Turaga was feeling the strain.
“I had to ask Mr Leung if he was available and if he was clean and qualified by all the standards according to the Fiji Law Society and the Constitution.
“Once we had verified that he was suitably qualified, I asked him to be ready to be sworn in today (yesterday).”
He confirmed that it was his own decision to select a new A-G, and wasn’t advised by anyone else.
“This was my own selection. I take the blame. I make the selection and nobody else will be blamed for this.
“Mr Turaga could’ve done better, but we needed to change.
“We are trying to improve our services as well, especially for the people of Fiji.
“And let me assure the people of Fiji that we hear you and we are listening to your grievances.
