A trough of low pressure is expected to bring widespread rain across Fiji until Thursday, with the Fiji Meteorological Service warning that some areas could experience heavy downpours, thunderstorms and localized flooding.
In its latest weather bulletin issued at 5:30am today, the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi says occasional rain is expected over most parts of the country, with isolated heavy falls forecast throughout the day.
Moderate east to northeast winds and moderate seas are also expected, while overnight conditions will remain cool.
The weather office says the trough will continue to affect the country through Thursday, with occasional showers and isolated heavy falls forecast for the Northern and Eastern divisions. The Central Division can expect some showers, while conditions in the Western Division are expected to gradually improve with only brief showers.
As the weather system approaches, the Fiji Meteorological Service is warning that periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms may reduce visibility on roads and trigger minor flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Members of the public are being urged to monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings, exercise caution while travelling during heavy rain, avoid crossing flooded roads, rivers and creeks, and secure loose outdoor items while making the necessary preparations should weather conditions worsen.
