After claiming the boy’s division title during the Coca-Cola Triple N Zone Competition, Nakasi High School is sending 30 athletes of its athletes to this year’s Coca-Cola Games in May.

Nakasi High School scooped 16 gold, 16 silver and seven bronze to topple the boy’s defending champion from Davuilevu, Lelean Memorial School during the two-days competition.

Nakasi High School principal, Praveen Chand said the competition has been quite stiff, and the game being disrupted by the adverse weather prior and during the competition did not help the athletes.

He said losing the boys division title last year was the catalyst for the team to rise and conquer the competition this year.

“We love challenges and despite our limitations we are a team which has a strong culture culture and are resolved to fight all adversities with humility,” he said.

“We have raw talents and home-grown athletes that are trained by our staff – this surely makes us a proud institution.

“Many of our athletes have moved on, yet we still manage to pull a surprise at the athletics competition.”

He said training balanced with academic achievements is what many parents and guardians appreciate as the school has become responsible for athletes’ schoolwork and training.

“We do not have any gym, camping facilities or specialised coach yet we punch above our weight and bring glory to our small school,” he said.

“We won three medals in the Cokes last year. We managed to win two silver and one bronze but wish to do better this year.”

He said the staff, students, parents and supporters will be there to support their athletes in this year’s athletics competition.

Adi Cakobau School defended the girl’s title with 33 gold, 18 silver and 24 bronze, Naitasiri Secondary School came in second with five gold, seven silver and seven bronze.

Wainimala Secondary School came in third with three gold, seven silver and four bronze.

For the boys, Lelean Memorial School was in second place with 15 gold, 12 silver and nine bronze and Naitasiri Secondary School finished in third place with four gold, three silver and three bronze.
