MISSION accomplished was the summary of Fiji’s three amateur boxers in Samoa as they all won gold medals in the Fight for Independence 64 competition held last Friday.
Jone Davule, Elijah Qiokata and Aminiasi Saratibau earned strong finishes in the competition, securing wins in all their matches.
The competition the trio featured renowned Samoan boxing legend Faumuina Toaletai David Tua.
Head coach Cam Todd was elated with the result as the outing also served as a key ground for preparations to the 2026 Commonwealth Games next month.
“I am extremely happy with the three boxers, I think it’s the first time Fiji have taken a team to Samoa after a very long time and definitely the first time we’ve had a great sweep of wins,” Todd relayed from Samoa.
“And for me, it was impressive with the quality of the wins.”
“Jone Davule boxed a very experienced boy, it was quite tricky, so it was an excellent bout for him.”
Davule needed to compete in Samoa since he last fought in the ring in the 2025 Sukuna Bowl amateur boxing competition.
For Qiokata, the youngest boxer out of the trio, Todd was pleased with his performance,
“I was especially pleased with his technical ability against a good opponent and he is starting to show great promise.”
Saratibau’s power and brilliance in the ring stood out for the head coach and was a keyt part of their campaign there.
“Saratibau was very dominant, winning by first round knockout. His power is incredible and we’re just fortunate to get three wins before we start preparing for the Commonwealth Games.”
Todd added the Samoa outing was part of an effort to engage Fiji’s amateur boxers around the Pacific and help in the growth of the sport in the region as well.
