Athletics Fiji is working in collaboration with the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association (FSSAA) in terms of upskilling officials for the upcoming Oceania Athletics Championship in June.
There has been increased activity between the two this year as they aim to achieve their target in capacity building. With the assistance of Oceania Athletics, both parties can get access to quality training needed to upskill their people.
“We have increased our capacity this year, we have come up with a new constitution and we have been going out, training our officials, they must be qualified,” FSSAA president Marika Uluinaceva stated.
“We are working with Athletics Fiji and Oceania Athletics who are starting this Thursday (today) with their coaching clinics. Those who attend the clinic can do their practical during our Ester Games after lunch on Friday and only then can they officiate at the Oceania Championship.” Uluinaceva added they had already begun taking steps towards this.
“We also have a manager and coaches’ workshop which has been underway and we are thankful for the opportunity and support rendered by Oceania Athletics.”
The Easter Games will be held on Friday and Saturday at the HFC Stadium in Suva, the Fiji Finals which is also one of the practical grounds for officials will be held on May 2-4.
