THE High Court has deferred the plea of prominent TikTok creator Ana Masere to October 20 after an application by the State for additional time to file the charge document.
Ms Masere faces five counts under the Online Safety Act, comprising two counts of causing harm through electronic communication, two counts of indecently annoying a person, and one count of breaching bail conditions.
The charges arise from a video published on her TikTok profile, in which she allegedly made disparaging remarks concerning complainant Ashika Sharma.
It is alleged that Ms Sharma attempted suicide shortly after the video was circulated online. State lawyer Joeli Nasa requested further time to submit the formal information.
The court was told Mr Nasa also acknowledged that the State was directed at the previous hearing to file the documents within seven days, but requested until Tuesday to complete the filing.
Justice Eiyaz Hamza granted the State’s request and set the plea date for one week thereafter.
Defence lawyer Viraat Anand did not oppose the application for adjournment.
Justice Hamza adjourned the matter accordingly and Ms Masere’s bail was extended.
