Three police officers who failed to appear in court as prosecution witnesses in the case of Imran Khan have been interdicted after their absence resulted in the matter being dismissed.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu confirmed the officers had been interdicted and said an Internal Affairs investigation was underway into their non-attendance.

The case was dismissed by Nasinu Magistrate Krishan Prasad on Saturday after three of the five prosecution witnesses failed to appear in court, resulting in Khan being discharged.

The three individuals who did not attend included two police officers and one civilian staff member of the Fiji Police Force.

Khan had been charged with unlawful possession of illicit drugs after he was allegedly found with 3.49 grams of methamphetamine in Nasinu in 2021.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions confirmed there were five prosecution witnesses scheduled to give evidence, but three failed to appear. A bench warrant was subsequently issued against the absent witnesses.

The dismissal of the Nasinu matter comes just days after Khan was sentenced to four years and three months’ imprisonment following his conviction on a separate charge of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

That conviction related to an incident on February 7, 2023, in which Khan was found in possession of 4.1364 grams of methamphetamine in Suva.
